Intensity Values of Terrestrial Laser Scans Reveal Hidden Black Rock Art Pigment
نویسندگان
چکیده
The intensity values of terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) can be used to reveal painted black rock art behind graffiti and moss. effect was observed in Gumahon cave Peñablanca, Philippines where previously unnoticed pigment exposed underneath moss, red white graffiti, etched name graffiti. application TLS for this purpose has not, our knowledge, been reported. significance finding is that archaeologists are provided a new method detecting obfuscated aid interpretation. applied similar contexts as common limestone caves across Southeast Asia Micronesia, but also ubiquitous globally.

A novel method for locating the local terrestrial laser scans in a global aerial point cloud
In addition to the heterogeneity of aerial and terrestrial views, the small scale terrestrial point clouds are hardly comparable with large scale and overhead aerial point clouds. A hierarchical method is proposed for automatic locating of terrestrial scans in aerial point cloud. The proposed method begins with detecting the candidate positions for the deployment of the terrestrial laser scanne...
متن کاملRegistration of Terrestrial Laser Scans via Image Based Features
The complexity of natural scenes and the amount of information acquired by terrestrial laser scanners turns the registration among scans into a complex problem. This problem becomes even more complex when considering the relatively low angular resolution of terrestrial scanner compared to images, the monotonicity of manmade surfaces that makes the detection of corresponding objects difficult, a...
متن کاملExtraction of Objects from Terrestrial Laser Scans by Integrating Geometry Image and Intensity Data with Demonstration on Trees
Terrestrial laser scanning is becoming a standard for 3D modeling of complex scenes. Results of the scan contain detailed geometric information about the scene; however, the lack of semantic details still constitutes a gap in ensuring this data is usable for mapping. This paper proposes a framework for recognition of objects in laser scans; aiming to utilize all the available information, range...
متن کاملCorrection of Intensity Incidence Angle Effect in Terrestrial Laser Scanning
In this article, we have studied the incidence angle effect on Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) intensity. In previous tests, it has been found that the backscattered intensity of an object affects the incidence angle effect. We made additional experiments to investigate the potential mixing of distance and incidence angle effects and the role of surface parameters such as object grain size and...
متن کاملPigment characterisation in Australian rock art: a review of modern instrumental methods of analysis
The many thousands of Aboriginal rock art sites extending across Australia represent an important cultural record. The styles and materials used to produce such art are of great interest to archaeologists and those concerned with the protection of these significant works. Through an analysis of the mineral pigments utilised in Australian rock art, insight into the age of paintings and practices...
